At David Henry School, everyone learns — including our staff! Being engaged in learning is really important to us. We work together in groups, but we also know how to work independently. Through ako, we get the chance to teach others — sometimes even our teachers — something new we’ve learnt! Our teachers make learning fun and meaningful.
We take part in special events like Wig Day to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation, and we don’t just go on camps — we also visit places like the supermarket to learn real-life skills such as reading labels and budgeting. Twice a term, we visit the rest home to spend time with the elderly, share songs, stories, and smiles, and learn the value of kindness and connection across generations.
During Peace Week, we learnt about the victims and survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and reflected on the importance of kindness and understanding. We also love getting creative through productions, the music festival, kapa haka, and many more activities that help us discover our strengths, work on our challenges, and set our next learning goals.
